Attention Volunteers, Mentors, Sponsors, and Partners!

The Gloucester County Library System (GCLS) was a recent recipient of a contract award which helped fund the first Makerspace in Gloucester County. Funding for this Makerspace Initiative is provided in part by the New Jersey State Library and by LibraryLinkNJ, The New Jersey Library Cooperative, whose services are funded by the New Jersey State Library, which is responsible for the coordination, promotion, and funding of the New Jersey Library Network.

GCLS is always looking for interested businesses, educational organizations, and individuals with interest in any STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mechanics) related fields that would be willing to share their expertise and knowledge in a mentorship, partnership, or sponsorship capacity.

For more information, please contact us at

Some examples of what we're looking for include interests in:

Textile production (Sergers, Sewing machines, etc.)

3-D printing

Upcycled Craft Creation

Vinyl Cutting

Graphic Design

Music and/or Video Production

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) related Arts and Crafts

Video Game Design and Programming

Computer Software Programming/App Building

So... What is a Makerspace?

Quite simply, a Makerspace can be defined as a designated area supplied with tools, ranging from the very basic to the latest cutting edge technology in which people of all ages can gather to learn, socialize, experiment and create.

Why a GCLS Makerspace?

Aligned with the recent Educate to Innovate government initiative, a Makerspace provides opportunities to engage both young and old in creative-thinking and encourages community-based innovation and entrepreneurship in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mechanics (STEAM).

A goal for the Gloucester County Library System (GCLS) as stated in the 2013-2016 Strategic Plan is to create a makerspace, the first in Gloucester County. Establishing a Makerspace supports the GCLS mission, which is to provide welcoming community spaces where people gather to learn, create and have fun.
